About Us

Green Side Up is the primary program created and run by the Las Vegas chapter of Youth Outdoor Unity (YOU). YOU is a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization.

Youth Outreach Unity was started in 2009 in Houston, TX with the purpose of creating access to non-school-based experiential learning activities for underserved youth, especially females, in order to help prepare them for 21st-century careers. “Chef” Mitchell Bryant is a founding member of YOU.

After moving to Las Vegas, Chef ‘s admiration for civil service led him to create a Nevada chapter of YOU. When Mitchell met Alaric Overbey, a new concept emerged that became Green Side Up Vertical Farm, LLC in 2022, as a response to the COVID pandemic's negative impact on the existing food deserts. Alaric brings a background in data center optimization and backup systems as well as first-hand experience of the reality of "food insecurity" while living in South Dallas. 

Green Side Up Vertical Farm is an innovative approach to urban farming in food insecure communities that not only answers food insecurity but also serves as an experiential learning and economic initiative for youth and young adults through a workforce development program. While so many organizations are focused on the problem, Green Side Up and Green Side Up Vertical Farm, LLC are focused on developing tools.
